Stephen Grayson Cornfoot is a twenty-one-year old employee of the United Kingdom Ministry of Magic's Department of Mysteries. He holds a research position as a cryptomagical specialist and spent three years in Brasil, training with the Amazon wizarding community.

Stephen, often called "Gray", has been left with a mild claustrophobic reaction to crowds from his years in Brasil, as well as a fear of being alone. Because of this last, he often plays the WWN quietly in the background, so that he feels less alone.

He is currently working on the Penthesileia Project, which will, when completed, allow a wizard to identify runes and sigils as being made by friend or foe on sight - without all the complex spell-casting that often goes with the procedure. He specialises in magical languages, runes, sigils, and cryptomancy.

From his years in Brasil, he's also been left with a rather odd accent. It is a melding of Mediterranean, Brasilian, and South London accents and the lyrical quality is quite outside what one would expect from such a shy, quiet young man.

He has a line of blue-grey runes tattooed on his neck, from just behind his ear, down the tendon to his shoulder. The topmost run is easily recognisable as the algiz - the protection rune. On the middle finger of each hand, he has a tiny ring of runes tattooed on his skin, which function as magical focus points for Amazon wizards. He's only able to do very simple magic with these runes, though, much like a first-year at Hogwarts.
